2005 Season - Week 17

AP Denied Hall of Fame Week

Last weeks score of 55 points for AP was overturned after Chef challenged himself that the NFL Network announcement that Samkon Gado had been placed on IR was in fact incorrect. Replay official Wayne confirmed Gado was not on IR and as a result Gado was restored to AP’s team removing his week 16 replacement Frank Gore and the 2 TDs Gore had scored. As a result Daz outscored AP by 1 point in week 16 and AP’s lead was down to 12 points over Daz. Chief was not charged a Time-Out. Closest Finish Ever AP & Daz took the Hunt for the Papas Fritas down to the wire yesterday despite AP taking a 30 point lead after his RB Tatum Bell scored 3 TDs on Saturday night. In the early games with Gado not playing, Vick getting benched, the Bengals only scoring 3 points and Hines Ward being held to 1 catch only Adam Vinatieri added points for AP. He added 7 more. It should have been 8 but one of his PATs was drop kicked by Doug Flutie – the first drop kick conversion in the NFL since 1941! For Daz Seattle’s Shaun Alexander and Matt Hasselbeck were removed from the game once Alexander had the TD record and rushing title. Matt had no points. Brandon Stokley was held out by Indianapolis while in the 3rd quarter of Cleveland’s game Antonio Bryant scored on a 6 yard reception. In the Carolina thumping of Atlanta - Ricky Manning scored what seemed a meaningless TD on a fumble recovery with 4 minutes left when they were already 34-3 up. John Kasay kicked the PAT and ended up with 14 points. At the end of the early games Seattle’s loss cost AP 6 points from coach Mike Holmgren whilst Daz got 6 from coach Jon Gruden as Tampa Bay won the NFC South. That meant AP had a 5 point lead going into the late games with WR Santana Moss still to play while Daz had RB Ladell Betts and Jags wideout Ernest Wilford still to go. The Redskins used Betts sparingly and he did not score. Early on Moss was tackled on the Eagles 4 yard line and through 3 quarters he had 4 catches for 83 yards. With Jaguars 3rd string QB Quinn Gray throwing the ball, Wilford had been shutout until there were just 30 seconds left in the 3rd quarter when he finally caught a 26 yard pass. On the next play Wilford caught a 14 yard pass for a TD and Daz took a 1 point lead. That was it for Wilford leaving AP to hope Moss could score. Washington added 14 points in the 4th quarter as they came from behind to win & clinch a wildcard but Moss did not catch another pass leaving Daz to win the Papas Fritas by just 1 point.
